Mogadishu,(insidesomalia.org)- A soldier has died of his injuries following a truck bomb attack by an Islamic terrorist group against the base of the Burundian peacekeeping contingent in Mogadishu, Somalia, National Defence Force (FDN) Spokesman, Lt.-Col. Adolphe Manirakiza said here Wednesday.
The body of the first victim of the 850-strong Burundian military contingent, whose identity has not been disclosed by the FDN army staff, was expected to be flown back to Bujumbura Wednesday (today) afternoon aboard a Kenya Airways commercial flight, Manirakiza said.
The military official condemned the attack against "peace keepers whose sole aim is to help the Somalian brothers reconcile".
The FDN spokesman has however ruled out any plan to withdraw the Burundian military contingent despite the attack.
"Every trade has its risks and we will keep fulfilling the commitment made before the international community to contribute to the return of a lasting peace in Somalia,'' he said.
On the otherside, Al-Shabaab Islamic Group has claimed the responsibility of the attack saying that a suicide bomber called Abdi-aziz Bshar implemented the bombing of the Burundian base in Mogadishu on Tuesday.
sheikh Mukhtar Robow "Abu Mansoor", spokesman for the Al-Shabaab group threatened that their group will continue attacking AMISOM peacekeeping forces "unless they had withdrew from Somalia" he said in an interview with the local radio stations in Mogadishu after few hours when the attack took place.
Abu Mansoor warned that there will be other suicide attacks against AMISOM AU peacekeeping mission in Somlia.
"There is a list of suicide bomber ready launching attacks against the infidels" said the spokesman of Al-Shabaab Islamic group.
Among the casualties were one civilian died and seven others wounded mostly women tracking water from a well maintained by the Burundian peacekeeping contingents in the capital.
Also, Ugandan troop’s base in Mogadishu, near Mogadishu International Airport was attacked on Tuesday with eight rounds of mortar shells but no casualties were reported.
Later today, a convoy of Ethiopian Troops was attacked with what is believed to be a landmine in Km4 area of Mogadishu and witnesses say a number of Ethiopian soldiers were either killed or wounded but the report could not be confirmed yet.
Tension is high in Mogadishu and people are very scarce of security and livelihood after food prices has rocketed high into the sky including essential food commodities.
“A kilo of Pasta is 34 Somali Shilling while it was 15 Somali Shilling before the fighting broke out in Mogadishu 0n 2006" said Haliomo Mohamed Abdi, a mother of three children who now lives at the Elasha where hundreds of thousands of people who fled the fighting in the capital are temporarily living in a make shift huts with out proper food, water and sanitation.
The new phenomenon of suicide bombing, roadside bombs, organized assassinations and indiscriminate shelling of the residential areas could not be altered unless the warring side comes into the round table for peaceful negotiations.
